Gladys Mair Evans, daughter of Alfred Donald Evans and Ivy Dorothea "Dorie" Sutton, was born in Bedwelty, Monmouthshire, WalesG, on 24 June 1932.1 She died aged 68 in January 2001.2 She married in Bedwelty, MonmouthshireG, in 1954, Albert Bernard Ashman.3
     At the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, Gladys was living at 2 Gwalia Buildings, NantygloG, with her mother Ivy Dorothea and sister Brenys in the household of Ivy Dorothea's parents, Wilsie and Elizabeth.4
