Matilda S Sackett, daughter of Thompson Davidson Sackett and Rebecca Matilda Evans, was born in San Luis Obispo, CaliforniaG, on 3 March 1860.1 She died aged 94 at home at 4659 Mississippi Street, San Diego, CaliforniaG, on 21 July 19542 and was buried at Sunnyside Cemetery, Long Beach, Los Angeles County, CaliforniaG.4 She married in Downey, Los Angeles CountyG, on 4 March 1880, Thomas Cicero Borden, son of Archibald Borden and Sarah Caroline Rogers.3 Thomas was born in MississippiG in April 1851.5 He died aged 60 on 17 March 1912 when he was shot and killed by a burglar at his home in Long BeachG.6,7,8
He was buried at Sunnyside Cemetery, Long BeachG.9
In 1870 Matilda was living in Los Nietos, Los Angeles County, CaliforniaG, in the household of her parents Thomas and Rebecca, and was recorded in the census as Matilda Sackett, aged ten and born in California.10
In 1880 she was living in Los NietosG in the household of her husband Thomas, 29, a farmer, and was recorded as Matilda Borden, aged 20 and born in California.11
In 1900 she was living at Long BeachG in the household of her husband Thomas, 49, a farmer, and was recorded as Matilda Borden, aged 40. They rented their farm. Living with them were their children, David, 19, Ella, 18, Ida, 16, Josie, 13, Matilda, 11, and Thomas Jr, aged four.12
In 1910 she was living at East 10th Street, Long BeachG, in the household of her husband Thomas, 59, a police officer, and was recorded as Matilda Borden, aged 50. They owned their home free of mortgage. Living with them were their children, Ella, 28, Josie, 22, Tillie, 19, and Tommie, aged 14.13
In 1920 she was living at East 10th Street, Long BeachG, and was recorded as Matilda Borden, head of household, aged 60, a widow. Living with her were her son Archibald, 40, his wife Mattie, 35, and their children, Beth, 9, David, 5, Luella, 3, and Richard, aged one. There were also two female boarders in the household.14
In 1930 she was living in Heber, Imperial County, CaliforniaG, in the household of her daughter Ella and son-in-law Howard Ware, and was recorded as Matehilda Borden, a widow aged 70.15
He was buried at Sunnyside Cemetery, Long BeachG.9 In 1870 Matilda was living in Los Nietos, Los Angeles County, CaliforniaG, in the household of her parents Thomas and Rebecca, and was recorded in the census as Matilda Sackett, aged ten and born in California.10
