Alfred Granville Smith, son of Alfred William Smith and Katherine Sackett, was born in Ash next Sandwich, KentG, in 18821,2 and baptized at Ramsgate Christ Church, KentG, on 2 July 1882.3 He died aged 81 in Sheerness, KentG, in 1963.4 He married in Battle, SussexG, in 1908, Eveland Cruttenden.5,6 Eveland was born in St Leonards-on-Sea, SussexG, in about 1880.7
     In 1891 Alfred was living at 6 Myrtle Terrace, Canterbury, KentG, in the household of his parents Alfred and Katherine, and was recorded in the census as Alfred G Smith, a scholar, aged eight and born in Ash.8
     In 1901 he was living at 10 Burrow Road, Folkestone, KentG, in the household of his brother Francis and sister-in-law Florence, and was recorded as Alfred G Smith, a solicitor's clerk, aged 18.9
     In 1911 he was living at 13 West Street, Blue Town, Sheerness, KentG, and was recorded as Alfred Granville Smith, a coal merchant, remover, and general carrier, head of household, aged 28. Living with him were his wife Eveland, 30, and their daughter Lucy, aged one. Also in the household was Eveland's unmarried sister Frances, 31.10
