Francis S Smith, son of Alfred William Smith and Katherine Sackett, was born in Northampton in about 1876.1 He married Florence A ___.2 Florence was born in Harbledown, KentG, in about 1872.2
     In 1881 Francis was living at St George's Terrace, New Street, Ash next Sandwich, KentG, in the household of his parents Alfred and Katherine, and was recorded in the census as Francis Smith, a scholar, aged four and born in Northampton.3
     In 1891 he was living at 6 Myrtle Terrace, Canterbury, KentG, in the household of his parents Alfred and Katherine, and was recorded as Francis S Smith, a tin plate worker, aged 14 and born in Northampton.4
     In 1901 he was living at 10 Burrow Road, Folkestone, KentG, and was recorded as Francis S Smith, a police constable, head of household, aged 24. Living with him were his wife Florence, 28, and his brothers, Alfred, 18, and George, 13.5
