Winfield Scott Sackett, son of Jacob R Sackett and Ann Eliza Brittin, was born in Byberry, Philadelphia County, PennsylvaniaG, on 4 November 1849.2,3 He died aged 67 at 1005 Robbins Avenue, Frankford, Philadelphia CountyG, on 16 December 1916 and was buried at Oakland Cemetery, FrankfordG, on 20 December 1916.4,5 He married at St Mark's Episcopal Church, FrankfordG, on 4 November 1869, Sarah Pharmer "Sally" Abram, daughter of Jacob Abram and Isabella Insller.6 Sarah was born in PennsylvaniaG in November 1849.3 She died aged 77 in PhiladelphiaG on 27 February 1927 and was buried at Oakland CemeteryG on 2 March 1927.7,8
     In 1850 Winfield was living in Byberry, Philadelphia CountyG, in the household of his parents Jacob and Ann, and was recorded in the census as Winfield Scott Sackett, aged seven months and born in Pennsylvania.9
     In 1860 he was living in PhiladelphiaG in the household of his parents Jacob and Annie, and was recorded as Winfield S Sacket, aged ten.10
     Winfield served as a Private in the Union Army in the 6th Regiment, Pennsylvania Cavalry, during the American Civil War.11 He subsequently served as a Corporal in the 3rd US Infantry from 4 November 1865 to 4 November 1868 and fought in the American Indian Wars.12,13
     In 1870 he was living in PhiladelphiaG and was recorded as Winfield Sackett, aged 20. His wife Sarah, 20, was living with him.14
     Winfield was listed in the Philadelphia City Directory from 1877 when he was a liquor merchant. He was a cigar merchant from 1882, and from 1897 an inspector (for the health department.)15
     In 1880 he was living in PhiladelphiaG and was recorded as Winfield S Sackett, a vendue clerk, head of household, married, aged 30 and born in Pennsylvania. Living with him were his wife Sarah, 30, and children, Anna, 9, Florence, 6, and Russell, aged three.16
     Winfield and his family were members of the Trinity Church Oxford, PhiladelphiaG, in 1885.17
     Winfield was listed in the 1890 census of veterans. He was then living in the 23rd Ward, PhiladelphiaG.13
     In 1900 he was living at Oxford Turnpike, PhiladelphiaG, and was recorded as Winfield S Sackett, an inspector for the Board of Health, head of household, aged 50. He rented his home. Living with him were his wife Sarah, 50, and their children, Florence, 26, Barbara, 17, Clifford, 11, and George, aged six.18
     In 1910 he was living at Oxford Pike, PhiladelphiaG, and was recorded as Winfield S Sacket, a clerk at the Board of Health, aged 60. He rented his home (a farm). Living with him were his wife Sara, 60, and their unmarried children, Florence, 27, Blanche, 24, Clifford, 22, and G Castor, aged 15. Also in the household was a hired man, presumably a farm laborer.19
     In 1920 Winfield's widow Sarah was living at Robbins Avenue, PhiladelphiaG, and was recorded in the census as Sarah P Sackett, head of household, aged 70. She owned her home on a mortgage. Living with her were her unmarried daughter Florence, 35, son George Castor, 25, with his wife Edna and their one-year-old son, Winfield, and Sarah's unmarried sister Dorothy, 40.20
