Walter Morgan Sackett, son of Duane G Sackett and Frances A Wilcox, was born in Ashville, Chautauqua County, New York StateG, on 5 December 1885.1,2 He died aged 89 at St Luke's Hospital, Columbus, Polk County, North CarolinaG, on 13 April 19753,4,5 and was buried at Polk Memorial Gardens, ColumbusG, on 16 April 1975.2 He married on 4 November 1922, Ruth G Porter.3
     In 1900 Walter was living at Becker Road, Portland, Chautauqua County, New York StateG, and was recorded in the census as Walter M Sackett, a schoolboy, aged 14 and born in New York. He and his sister Florence, 18, were living as boarders in the household of their widowed grandfather Edson Wilcox and unmarried aunt Ester Wilcox.6
     In 1910 he was living at Center Street, Pomfret, Chautauqua CountyG, in the household of his father Duane and stepmother Esther, and was recorded as Walter M Sackett, a travelling salesman, aged 24 and born in New York.7
     Walter Sackett served in the US Army during the First World War. He was called to service in the rank of Captain on 15 August 1917. He was posted to France in June 1918, promoted Major in November 1918, and completed his overseas posting in May 1919 before being discharged in June of that year.8
     In 1920 he was living at Park Avenue, Rochester, Monroe County, New York StateG, in the household of his sister Florence and her husband Henry Weiler, and was recorded as Walter M Sackett, a travelling salesman (lithographic), unmarried, aged 34 and born in New York.9
     In 1930 he was living at Kilbourne Road, Pittsford, Monroe County, New York StateG, and was recorded as Walter M Sackett, an advertising manager in a lithographic business, head of household, aged 44 and born in New York. He owned his home and was a veteran of the World War. Living with him were his wife Ruth, 32, and their children, Walter Jr, 4, and David, aged two. Also in the household were two female servants.10
     In 1940 he was living at Forest Avenue, Evanston, Cook County, IllinoisG, and was recorded as Walter Sackett, a print sales manager, head of household, married, aged 54 and born in New York. He rented his house. Living with him were his wife Ruth, 42, and their children, Walter Jr, 14, David, 12, Richard, 9, and Virginia, aged five. There was also a female servant in the household.11
     He completed a World War II draft registration card in 1942. He was then aged 56 and was employed by R R Donnelley & Sons Company in Chicago. He was living at 1218 Forest Avenue, Evanston, Cook County, IllinoisG, with his wife Elizabeth.12
