Frederick Elsworth Sackett, contractor, son of Elijah Sackett and Olive Antoinette "Nett" Dunham, was born in West Springfield, Hampden County, MassachusettsG, on 10 December 1865.1 He died aged 78 on 4 December 1944 and was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, Springfield, Hampden CountyG.2 He married in SpringfieldG on 17 March 1885, Bessie E Burlingham, daughter of Albert James Burlingham and Julia Augusta Hathaway.3 Bessie was born in Windsor, Berkshire County, MassachusettsG, on 9 December 1870.4 She died aged 68 in SpringfieldG on 13 February 1939 and was buried at Oak Grove CemeteryG.2 Frederick and Bessie had only one child, a son who died in infancy.
     In 1870 Frederick was living in SpringfieldG in the household of his parents Elijah and Olive, and was recorded in the census as Freddie E Sackett, aged four and born in Massachusetts.5
     In 1880 he was living in SpringfieldG in the household of his parents Elijah and Olive, and was recorded as Frederick Sackett, aged 14.6
     Frederick was listed from 1888 in the Springfield City Directory. He was living at Worthington Street, SpringfieldG, and was employed by Sackett Bros, excavating, grading and sewer contractors, the company run by his older brothers William and Frank. Fred was a principal of the company by 1898.7,8
     In 1900 he was living at Worthington StreetG and was recorded as Fred E Sackett, a contractor excavations, head of household, aged 34. He owned his home free of mortgage. His wife Bessie, 29, was living with him. Also in the household were Bessie's brother Harry Burlingham, 20, and grandmother Lydia Lewis, aged 73.9
     In 1908 Frederick was the owner of a 38hp Knox automobile, plate number 7652. He was living at 844 Worthington StreetG.10
     In 1910 he was living at Worthington StreetG and was recorded as Fred E Sackett, a jobbing contractor, head of household, aged 44. He owned his home. His wife Bessie, 39, was living with him. There was also a female servant in the household.11
     Frederick remained a principal of Sackett Bros for the rest of his life and was president of the company by 1918.12,13
     In 1920 he was living at Worthington StreetG and was recorded as Fred E Sackett, a contractor, head of household, aged 54. He rented his home. His wife Bessie, 49, was living with him. There was also a male boarder in the household.14
     In 1930 he was living at Worthington StreetG and was recorded as Fred E Sackett, a building contractor, head of household, aged 64. His wife Bessie, 59, was living with him.15
     In 1940 he was living at Summit Street, SpringfieldG, and was recorded as Fred E Sackett, a building contractor, a widower aged 73. He was a lodger in the household of Emma Knox.16
