Mert Sellwyn Sackett, son of Daniel Webster Sackett and Lua Louisa Burdick, was born in IllinoisG on 14 September 1877.2,3 He died aged 76 on 10 June 1954 and was buried at Park Lawn Cemetery, Barry, Pike County, IllinoisG.3 He married in Pike CountyG on 29 June 1922, Cora Lulu Franklin, daughter of Marshall Nathan Franklin and Hattie Rose Harlow, and former wife of Mert's cousin Claude Thomas Sackett.4 Cora was born in Nebo, Pike County, IllinoisG, on 27 April 1893.5 She died aged 91 in Pittsfield, Pike CountyG, on 12 August 1984 and was buried at Park Lawn Cemetery, Barry, Pike CountyG.3
In 1880 Mert was living in Hadley, Pike County, IllinoisG, in the household of his parents Daniel and Lua, and was recorded in the census as Mirt Sackett, aged two and born in Illinois.6
In 1900 he was living in Hadley, Pike County, IllinoisG, in the household of his parents Daniel and Lua, and was recorded as Myrt S Sackett, a farm laborer, aged 22, single.7
In 1910 he was living in HadleyG in the household of his parents Daniel and Lua, and was recorded as Mert S Sackett, a farmer on the home farm, aged 31, single.8
Mert completed a World War I draft registration card on 12 September 1918. He was aged 40 and was a self-employed farmer living at Baylis, Pike County, IllinoisG.9
In 1920 he was living in HadleyG in the household of his widowed father Daniel, and was recorded as Mert S Sackett, a section hand on the railroad, aged 43, single.10
In 1930 he was living in New Salem, Pike County, IllinoisG, and was recorded as Mert D Sackett, a farmer, head of household, aged 52. He rented his home. Living with him were his wife Cora, 36, Cora's children, Russel, 18, Lacy, 15, and Annabell, aged 12, and his and Cora's children, Hattie, 7, twins Willis and Willard, 4, Mary, 2, and Lulu, aged two months.11
