Richard John Sackett, son of Richard Thomas Sackett and Ann Elizabeth Reed, was born in West Ham, EssexG, on 29 December 18641,2 and died aged 76 in Essex (South Western Registration District)G in 1941.3 He married at All Saints, West Ham, EssexG, on 1 December 1889, Alma Horwood, daughter of Joseph Horwood.4,5 Alma was born in Chadwell Heath, EssexG, on 12 July 18676,2 and died aged 74 in Essex (South Western Registration District)G in 1941.7
     In 1871 Richard was living at 11 Carpenter Road, Stratford, West Ham, EssexG, in the household of his parents Richard and Ann, and was recorded in the census as Richard Sackett, a scholar, aged six and born in Stratford, Essex.8
     In 1881 Richard was living at 113 Livingstone Road, West Ham, EssexG, in the household of his parents Richard and Ann, and was recorded in the census as Richard J Sackett, a carman, aged 17 [actually 16], and born in Stratford.9
     In 1891 he was living at 80 Paul Street, West Ham, EssexG, and was recorded as Richard Sackett, a general labourer, head of household, married, aged 26 and born in Stratford, Essex. Living with him was his wife Alma, aged 23. Also in the household was a female boarder.10
     In 1901 he was living at 14 Cathall Road, Leyton, EssexG, and was recorded as Richard Sackett, a sawyer, head of household, married, aged 38, and born in Stratford. Living with him was his wife Alma, aged 35, and born in Chadwell Heath, Essex, and their children, Alma, 4, and Elizabeth, aged three.11
     In 1921 he was living at 56 Holloway Road, Leytonstone, LondonG, and was recorded as Richard Sackett, a road labourer for Leyton Council, head of household, aged 60. Living with him were his wife Alma, 53, and their children, Alma, 24, Charles [Henry Charles], 18, William [Richard William], 17, Albert, 15, and Edward [John Edward], aged nine.12
     At the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, Richard and Alma were living at 56 Holloway Road, Leyton, EssexG. Richard was a retired Council employee. Their unmarried children Margaret and John were living with them.13
