William Sackett, brewery laborer, son of Robert Sackett and Mary Ann Lazell, was born in Dagenham, EssexG, on 17 May 1883.1,2 He died aged 83 in East York, Ontario, CanadaG, on 12 September 1966.3 He married in Romford, Essex, EnglandG, on 5 June 1904, Mary Ann Jackson, daughter of Alfred Thomas Jackson and Eliza Annie Dunsdon.3,4
     In 1891 William was living at Bull Street, DagenhamG, in the household of his parents Robert and Mary, and was recorded in the census as William Sackett, a scholar, aged eight and born in Dagenham.5
     In 1901 he was living at Bull Street, DagenhamG, in the household of his parents Robert and Mary, and was recorded as William Sackett, a railway platelayer, aged 17 and born in Dagenham.6
     William emigrated to CanadaG in 1906, his wife Mary Ann and son John Henry following in 1907.7
     In 1911 he was living at 22 Dawson, Toronto, Ontario, CanadaG, and was recorded as William Sackett, a labourer in a brewery, head of household, aged 28 and born in England. Living with him were his wife Mary Ann, 27, and their children, John, 5, Grace, 2, and Ivy, aged nine months.8
     William served in the Canadian Army during the First World War. He enlisted on 26 January 1916 in the 180th Battalion and was passed fit for service with the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force.9
