John Lemuel "Lem" Sackett, son of James Lemuel Sackett and Margaret A Mustard, was born in Riga, Monroe County, New York StateG, on 24 May 1892.1,2 He died aged 83 in Rochester, Monroe CountyG, on 9 February 19763,2 and was buried at Wheatland Baptist Cemetery, Belcoda, Monroe CountyG.4,5 An inscription on his gravestone reads,

agricultural leader, mechanic
hunter, competitive shooter
Sunday School supt, Town Assessor
and Mason.
He married in Clarence, Erie County, New York StateG, on 29 June 1923, Florence Minerva Wells, daughter of Jerrid Uzirl Wells and Grace A Wright.6 Florence was born in Gowanda, Cattaraugus County, New York StateG, on 2 February 1893.7 She died aged 76 in New York StateG on 18 July 19698 and was buried at Wheatland Baptist CemeteryG.4
     In 1900 John was living in Riga, Monroe County, New York StateG, in the household of his parents James and Margaret, and was recorded in the census as John L Sackett, aged eight and born in New York.9
     In 1910 he was living at Brady Road, Riga, Monroe County, New York StateG, in the household of his parents James and Margaret, and was recorded as John L Sackett, a laborer on the home farm, aged 17.10
     John completed a World War I draft registration card on 5 June 1917. He was aged 25 and was a farmer employed by his father. He was living at Churchville, Monroe CountyG. He had previously served as an infantryman in Purdue, Indiana.11
     In 1920 he was living at Emmons Road, RigaG, in the household of his parents James and Margaret, and was recorded as J Lemuel Sackett, a farmer on the home farm, single, aged 27.12
     In 1930 he was living in RigaG and was recorded as John L Sackett, a farmer, head of household, aged 37. Living with him were his wife Florence, 37, and their children, Jane, 6, Janice, 4, John, 1, and Joan, aged five months.13
     In 1940 he was living at Palmer Road, RigaG, and was recorded as J Lemuel Sackett, a farmer, head of household, aged 47. He owned his home. Living with him were his wife Florence, 47, and their children, Jane Ann, 16, [Janice] Elizabeth, 14, John, 11, and Joan, aged ten.14
     John completed a World War II draft registration card on 25 April 1942. He was aged 49 and was self-employed. He was living at Palmer Road, RigaG, with his wife.15
     In 1950 he was living at Palmer Road, RigaG, and was recorded as John L Sackett, a farmer, head of household, aged 58. His wife Florence, 57, was living with him. Their daughters Janice, 29, and Joan, 20, were also listed in the household but their entries were struck through.16

Survived by three daughters, Mrs Otto (Jane) Uhle, Rochester, Mrs. Merle (Janice) Williams, Corfu and Mrs. Ralph (Joan) Spalding, Madison, Wis; a son, John L Jr., Byron and four grandchildren.
     Memorial service 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 at Clifton Community Church. Memorials to the Memorial Fund of the Church or the American Cancer Society.
