Alfred Thomas Sackett, boatman, son of Alfred Sackett and Eliza Crideford, was born in Teignmouth, DevonG, on 16 October 1866.1,2 He died aged 81 at The Hospital, Teignmouth, DevonG, on 24 January 1948.3,4 He married first in Newton AbbotG in 1889, Elizabeth Arthur.5,6 She was born in Truro, CornwallG, in about 18617 and died aged 57 at home in Mayor's Avenue, Dartmouth, DevonG, on 3 December 1919.8,4 He married second in Newton AbbotG in 1921, Sarah Ann Hammacott.9,10 She was born on 23 May 18662 and died aged 85 at 8 Ferndale Road, TeignmouthG, on 14 February 1953.11,4
     In 1871 Alfred was living at Model Cottages, Dimonds Lane, West Teignmouth, DevonG, in the household of his mother Elizabeth, and was recorded in the census as Alfred Sackett, aged four and born in Teignmouth.12
     In 1881 he was living at 12 Park Street, West TeignmouthG, in the household of his parents Alfred and Eliza, and was recorded as Alfred Sackett, a fisherman, aged 14 and born in Teignmouth.13
     In 1891 he was living at Lake Street, Dartmouth, DevonG, and was recorded as Alfred T Sackett, a general labourer, head of household, married, aged 24 and born in Teignmouth. Living with him were his wife Elizabeth, 20, and son Arthur, aged ten months.14
     In 1901 he was living at North Embankment, Dartmouth, DevonG, and was recorded as Alfred Sackett, a general labourer, head of household, aged 34. Living with him were his wife Elizabeth, 39, and their children, Arthur, 10, and Alice, aged eight. There were also two male boarders in the household.15
     In 1911 he was living at Mayor's Avenue, Dartmouth, DevonG, and was recorded as Alfred Thomas Sackett, licensed boatman, head of household, aged 44 and born in Teignmouth. Living with him were his wife Elizabeth, 48, and their children, Arthur, 20, and Alice, 18. There was also a male boarder in the household.16
     In 1914 Alfred was listed as a boat owner at Mayor's Avenue, Dartmouth, DevonG.17
     Alfred was granted administration on 31 December 1919 of his wife Elizabeth's estate, valued at £910.18
     In 1921 he was living at 24 Bitton Avenue, TeignmouthG, and was recorded as Alfred Thomas Sackett, a self-employed motor boatman, head of household, aged 54. Living with him were his wife Sarah, 54, a boarding house keeper. There were four visitors in the house.19
     At the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, Alfred and Sarah were living at 1A Lower Brook Street, Teignmouth, DevonG. Alfred was a retired boatman.20
     Alfred left a will which was proved on 24 February 1948 by his widow Sarah. His estate was valued at £412.21
     Alfred's widow Sarah left a will which was proved on 6 March 1953. Her estate was valued at £316.22
