Erwin Sackett, shoemaker, son of Lieutenant Elijah Sacket and Dorothy Hitchcock, was born in Hartford, Washington County, New York StateG, on 25 September 1807.1,2 He died aged 89 in Davenport, Scott County, IowaG, on 12 March 1897 and was buried at Oakdale Cemetery, DavenportG.4,5 He married in Watertown, Jefferson County, New York StateG, in 1830, Lucinda Bacon.1,3 Lucinda was born in New York StateG on 7 October 1810.6,7 She died aged 71 on 7 July 1882 and was buried at Oakdale Cemetery, DavenportG.5
In 1850 Erwin was living in Watertown, Jefferson County, New York StateG, and was recorded in the census as Erwin Sackett, a shoemaker, aged 43 and born in New York. Living with him were his wife Lucinda, 39, and their children, Edson, 17, Cyrus, 14, and Ellen, aged nine.8
In 1860 he was living in WatertownG and was recorded as Erwin Sackett, a shoemaker, aged 55. Living with him were his wife Lucinda, 50, and their daughter Helen, 19.9
In 1870 he was living in Rock Island, Rock Island County, IllinoisG, and was recorded as Irwin Sacket, a shoe shop worker, aged 63. His wife Lucinda, 59, was living with him.10
In 1880 he was living in Davenport, Scott County, IowaG, and was recorded as Erwin Sackett, head of household, aged 73, a shoemaker. Living with him was his wife Lucinda, aged 70.11

Erwin Sackett, an old and highly respected citizen of this city, passed away at his home, 521 Brady street, last evening, his death being the result of old age.
The deceased was a native of Hartford, N. Y., and had attained the ripe old age of eighty-nine years. Mr. Sackett had been a resident of this city for many years and followed the occupation of a shoemaker. He ran a shop near the corner of Fifth and Brady streets and was always highly esteemed by all who came in contact with him. A wide circle of friends and acquaintances will regret to learn of his demise. About two years ago he turned his shop over to his grandson and has since led a retired life with his son, E.P. Sackett on Brady street.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon with interment in Oakdale cemetery.
