Elisabeth Stebbins Sackett, daughter of Lieutenant Elijah Sacket and Dorothy Hitchcock, was born in New York StateG on 11 December 1791.1,2 She died aged 69 in Fowler, St Lawrence County, New York StateG, on 22 March 18611,3 and was buried at Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur, St Lawrence County, New York StateG.4 She married John Parker, son of Joshua Parker and Mary Adams.1 John was born in Canterbury, Windham County, ConnecticutG, in 1784.4 He died aged about 81 in Fowler, St Lawrence County, New York StateG, on 26 May 1866 and was buried at Riverside Cemetery, GouverneurG.4
     A history of Gouverneur records that Elisabeth was the teacher in the first district school there: "Miss Betsy S. Sackett was solicited to fill the vacancy, which we believe she did with credit to herself and the satisfaction of her employers." The vacancy had arisen after the first teacher left after only a week. The school was opened in 1809, catering for about a dozen children in a log school house measuring twelve feet by sixteen. The history also records that: "Later, Miss Sackett was married to John Parker and settled in the town of Fowler, where she died March 22nd, 1861, in the 71st year of her age."3
     In 1850 Elisabeth was living in Fowler, St Lawrence County, New York StateG, in the household of her husband John Parker, 67, a farmer, and was recorded in the census as Elizabeth S Parker, aged 60 and born in New York. Their son Oscar, 32, was living with them.5
     In 1860 she was living in FowlerG in the household of her husband John, 77, a farmer, and was recorded as Elisabeth S Parker, aged 68. Their son Oscar, 42, was living with them.6
