One Hundred Sacketts

A Selection of Notable Sacketts

Famous and infamous
No Sackett has achieved prominence to the point of becoming a household name, although some have come close. The Sacketts have been adventurers, ambassadors, churchmen, colonists, generals, historians, inventors, newspapermen, sea captains, settlers, spymasters, and war heroes, as well as countless farmers of all ranks—from wealthy yeomen to aspiring husbandmen and struggling agricultural labourers. The family even boasts a town mayor, a bigamist, and a highway robber, and has its fair share of eccentrics.

The first publication of this e-book has genealogical sketches for 58 notable Sacketts. Others will be added in subsequent editions, with an eventual target of 100.

The book may be downloaded in EPUB format for most reading programs and devices, for example Calibre, Bluefire, iBooks, and newer Kindle readers (including Kindle for Windows), or in MOBI format for older Kindle readers. There is also a PDF version if a paginated rather than reflowable text is preferred. The PDF version may also be opened directly in most browsers.

Suggestions of notable Sacketts to be included in subsequent editions will be gratefully received by the compiler Chris Sackett

The Book of Sacketts

The Sackett Family History and Genealogy

This is the third edition of the Sackett e-book. It has entries for the earliest known 2,062 Sacketts, covering at least 15 generations from the late 1200s to the early 1800s. It includes the first seven generations of the family in America.

Future editions will include later generations, with the eventual aim of publishing data on all members of the Sackett family, subject to a cutoff of about 100 years to respect the privacy of living persons.

The focus of the book is strictly on the Sackett name, with full entries made only for those who were born Sacketts. Children of female Sacketts are listed, where known, under their mother's genealogical sketch, but their lines are not continued.

This is the first attempt to document the Sackett family in book form since Charles Weygant published The Sacketts of America in 1907. It is also the first publication in book form of the genealogy of the English Sacketts. Entries are fully sourced, including references to the full text of Weygant's entries for persons who appear there.

The book includes A Selective History, with information on the Sackett name, migration and distribution, research, demographics, and some famous, infamous, or otherwise interesting Sacketts.
