Siloam Springs Woman Celebrates 100th Anniversary
Siloam Springs, Sept. 2—Mrs. James D. Denny, one of the oldest women in western Benton county, celebrated her 100th birthday Monday at her home near the Box Springs park. Five generations were represented by Mrs. Denny and 28 direct descendants were present at the birthday observance. Mrs. Denny has 30 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 32 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Denny, whose maiden name was Miss Eliza Sackett, was married in 1842 to James D. Denny, and was the mother of 10 children, four of whom live in Siloam Springs.

100-Year-Old Woman Dies 20 Days After Celebrating Birthday

Siloam Springs, Ark., Sept. 22 — Just 20 days after celebrating her one-hundredth anniversary, Mrs. James D. Denny, residing east of Siloam Springs, died suddenly at her home Sunday morning. Mrs. Denny, despite her age, had been in excellent health, and her death came as a shock. One hundred and thirteen direct descendants, including her five daughters, survive her.
Mrs. Denny, whose maiden name was Miss Eliza Sackett, was born in Madison County, Ill., Aug. 30, 1826. At the age of 16, she married James G. Denny.
Her husband was, for a time, a freighter between Illinois and the Pacific Coast in a day when the Indians controlled the intervening territory, and he took part in the Colorado gold rush. Denny died 22 years ago at the age of more than 80 years. Mrs. Denny has been a resident of Siloam Springs for more than 20 years. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Denny, of whom only the five daughters survive.
Her four oldest daughters, whose ages range from 76 to 83 years, live in Siloam Springs, three of them living with Mrs. Denny. The fifth daughter, Mrs Percie Chausee, Fargo N.D., 63, was in Siloam Springs at the time of Mrs. Denny's death, having remained for a visit with her sisters and mother after celebration of the centenarian's birthday. The other daughters are Mrs. Susan Bennett, Mrs. Sarah Bennett, Mrs. Amanda Bennett, and Mrs. Emma Page.
Thirty grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 32 great-great-grandchildren are still living. All five generations were represented at Mrs. Denny's birthday celebration, at which 28 descendants were present. The descendants are scattered over practically every state in the Midwest.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, with Rev. A. L. Cline, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, South, in charge. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery.
