Joan Zillah Haysom, daughter of Ralph Haysom and Winifred Elizabeth Palmer, was born in Lambeth, London^G, on 16 April 1919.¹ She married in Surrey^G in 1940, Walter Goronwy Morgan, son of Walter Morgan and Elizabeth Hannah "Lillie" Morgan.²

John Haysom, of Swanage, Dorset, son of Christopher Haysom and Catherine Warren, was born in Swanage^G in 1762 and baptized there on 7 June 1762.¹ He was probably the John Haysom who died aged 65 (he would actually have been 67) in Swanage, Dorset^G, in 1829 and was buried at St Mary's Church, Swanage^G, on 5 December 1829.³ He married in Swanage^G on 18 February 1784, Sarah Hancock, daughter of Thomas Hancock and Sarah Burdham.²

John Haysom, of Swanage, Dorset, was born probably in Swanage^G in 1696 or 1700.^1,2 He was the son of either Robert Heysom and Mary or Thomas Heysom and Elizabeth.^1,2 He married in Swanage^G on 19 June 1720, Margaret Iles.³

Joseph Haysom, stonemason, of London, son of John Haysom and Sarah Hancock, was born in Swanage, Dorset^G, in 1801¹ and baptized there on 24 May 1801.² He died aged 80 in St George Hanover Square, Middlesex^G, in 1880.³ He married about 1825, Louisa Wood.⁴
     In 1841 Joseph was living at St George Hanover Square, Westminster, Middlesex^G, and was recorded in the census as Joseph Hayson, a mason, aged 40 and born not in Middlesex. Living with him were his children, Henry, 12, Ralph, 2, Anne, 15, and Charlotte, aged five.⁵
     In 1851 he was living at 7 Belvoir Terrace, St Margaret's, Westminster, London^G, and was recorded as Joseph Hayson, a stonemason, head of household, married, aged 49 and born in Swanage, Dorset. Living with him were his wife, Louisa, aged 47 and born in Marylebone, and children, Ann, 24, Charlotte, 14, and Nathaniel, aged ten.⁶
     In 1861 he was living at 9 Bute Street, Kensington, Middlesex^G, and was recorded as Joseph Haysom, a stonemason, head of household, married, aged 59 and born in Swanage. Living with him were his wife Louisa, 58, and their unmarried children, Charlotte, 29, and Nathaniel, 21.⁷
     In 1871 he was living at Little Ebury Street, St George Hanover Square, Westminster^G, and was recorded as Joseph Haysom, a stonemason, head of household, married, aged 69 and born in Swanage. Living with him was his wife Louisa [recorded as Lucy], 68.⁸

Nathaniel Francis Trevelyan Haysom, stonemason, of Pimilco, London, son of Joseph Haysom and Louisa Wood, was born in Pimlico^G in 1841.^1,2 He died there aged 58 on 22 January 1899³ and was buried at Norwood Cemetery (South Metropolitan Cemetery), Lambeth, London^G, on 26 January 1899.⁶ He married at St Saviour's Church, Chelsea, London^G, on 9 February 1864, Clara Cookman, daughter of Samuel Cookman and Eliza ___.^4,5
     In 1851 Nathaniel was living at 7 Belvoir Terrace, St Margaret's, Westminster, London^G, in the household of his parents Joseph and Louisa, and was recorded in the census as Nathaniel Hayson, a scholar, aged ten and born in Pimlico.⁷
     In 1861 he was living at 9 Bute Street, Kensington, Middlesex^G, in the household of his parents Joseph and Louisa, and was recorded as Nathaniel Haysom, a stonemason, aged 21 and born in St George, Middlesex.⁸ In Samuel Cookman's will dated 19 October 1885 Principal Registry, London^G, Nathaniel Francis Trevelyan Haysom was named as executor.⁹
     In 1891 he was living at 10 Pimlico Road, St George Hanover Square, London^G, and was recorded as Nathaniel Hayson, a mason, head of household, married, aged 50 and born in London. Living with him were his wife Clara, 49, and children, Ralph, 25, Clara, 20, Charles, 19, Julia, 17, Eliza, 15, Minnie, 14, Harry, 8, Millicent, 6, and Frederick, aged two. Also in the household was Emma Harvey, a niece, aged 19.¹⁰
     Nathaniel left a will which was proved in London^G on 22 February 1899 by Louis Charles Mounstephen, architectural draughtsman. His personal estate was valued at £93.¹¹

Ralph Haysom, French-polisher, son of Ralph Haysom and Elizabeth Addison, was born in Pimlico, St George Hanover Square, London^G, on 11 October 1895.^1,2 He died aged 74 in Worthing, Sussex^G, in 1970.³ He married at St George Hanover Square, London^G, in 1918, Winifred Elizabeth Palmer, daughter of Ernest Alfred Palmer and Emily Olive Freeman.⁴
     In 1901 Ralph was living at 89 Winchester Street, St George Hanover Square, Victoria, City of Westminster, London^G, in the household of his widowed mother, Elizabeth, and was recorded in the census as Ralph Haysam, aged five and born in Pimlico, London.⁵
     In 1911 he was living at 5 Sutherland Place, London SW^G, in the household of his widowed mother Elizabeth, and was recorded as Ralph Haysom, an apprentice French polisher, aged 15.⁶
     Ralph served as a private soldier in the British Army during the First World war, enlisting on 22 March 1915 in the Seaforth Highlanders at Draycot Camp, Wiltshire^G. He served with the Expeditionary Force in France from 9 July 1915 to 12 September 1916. He was discharged from the Army on 7 May 1917, no longer physically fit for war service. His army papers show his home address as 5 Sutherland Place, London, and his occupation French-polisher.⁷
