James Sutton, son of George Sutton and Lucy Kettner, was born in Treborough, SomersetG, in 18061 and baptized there on 11 May 1806.2 He died aged 80 in SomersetG in 1887.3 He married in Brompton RegisG on 24 April 1834, Mary Kerslake.4,5
In 1841 James was living in Brompton Regis, SomersetG, and was recorded in the census as James Sutton, a shoemaker, aged 30+ and born in Somerset. Also in the household were his wife Mary, 25+, and their children, Mary, 2, and James, aged five months.6
In 1851 he was living in Kingsbrompton (now Brompton Regis), SomersetG, and was recorded as James Sutton, a farmer of 69 acres, aged 42 and born in Treborough, Somerset. Living with him were his wife Mary, 37, and seven children.7
In 1861 he was living in KingsbromptonG and was recorded as James Sutton, a farmer of 70 acres, aged 54. Living with him were his wife Mary, 47, and eight children, including Edward aged seven.8
In 1871 he was living in Brompton RegisG and was recorded as James Sutton, a farmer of 8 acres, aged 63. Living with him were his wife Mary, 57, and three children including Edward, aged 17.9
In 1881 he was living at Bleak Down, Brompton RegisG, and was recorded as James Sutton, a farmer of 10 acres, aged 73. Living with him were his wife Mary, 67, and their son Isaac, 22.10
