Vernon Walter Sackett, son of Walter Edward Sackett and Wilma Louise Nemnich, was born in Marine, Madison County, IllinoisG, on 16 April 1922.1 He died aged 71 in IllinoisG on 18 March 19942,3 and was buried at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Glen Carbon, Madison CountyG.4 He married at the Methodist Church, MadisonG, on 25 November 1948, Lucille Emmons, daughter of Morgan Emmons and Myrtle Carter.5 Lucille was born in Granite City, Madison County, IllinoisG, on 9 November 1926.6 She died aged 87 at the St Louis University Hospital, MissouriG, on 28 July 2014 and was buried at Sunset Hill CemeteryG.4
     In 1930 Vernon was living in MadisonG in the household of his parents Walter and Wilma, and was recorded in the census as Vernon Sackett, aged seven and born in Illinois.7
     Vernon served in the US Navy during the Second World War in the rank of Aviation Machinist Mate, first class, enlisting at Robertson, St Louis County, MissouriG, on 16 April 1940 and being released on 17 December 1945. He was based at the US Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida.8,9
     Vernon completed a World War II draft registration card at Madison, IllinoisG, on 13 February 1946. He was aged 23 and was unemployed. His father Walter was next of kin.10

Ruth Lucille Sackett, 87 of Granite City passed away on Monday, July 28, 2014 at St. Louis University Hospital.
     Lucille was born on November 9, 1926 in Granite City, a daughter to the late Morgan and Myrtle (Carter) Emmons.
     Lucille was a life long homemaker and a member of Nameoki United Methodist Church in Granite City. In her free time she stayed active by enjoying painting, square dancing, working crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy and sewing. She will be remembered for her loving heart and the many special times she shared with her family and friends.
     She is survived by and will be missed by her son; Vernon Paul Sackett of Elgin, IL; daughter, Susan Lynne Sackett of Williamsville, IL; grandson, Jon Sackett of Elgin, IL.
     In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon W. Sackett, whom she married on November 25, 1948.
     Friends may call on Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of her life services are Friday, August 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Pate officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials are suggested to Nameoki United Methodist Church.
