Moses Shakett/Sackett

Moses Shakett/Sackett was born in PolandG in about 1832.1 He died in Cook County, IllinoisG, on 30 January 1897 and was buried at the Waldheim Jewish Cemetery, Forest Park, Cook County, IllinoisG.2 He married in PolandG in about 1860, Lena Bowman.3 Lena was born in PolandG in about 1837.1 Moses and Lena divorced in 1889.
     In 1880 Moses was living at Hester Street, New York CityG, and was recorded in the census as Moses Shachett, a tailor, aged 48 and born in Poland. Living with him were his wife Leah, 43, and their children, Polly, 18, Marx, 10, Joseph, 5, Sarah, 8, Rebecca, 3, Benjamin, 2, and John, aged four months.4
     Moses and Lena moved to Dallas, Texas, in the early 1880s but separated some time before 1888, by when Moses had moved to Chicago. Lena remained in Dallas and established a dry goods retail business to support herself and her children.5
     Moses became a naturalized US citizen on 27 September 1888.6
