Emily Mercy Lawrence, daughter of Shrubsole Lawrence Jr and Mercy Hogbin, was born in Margate, KentG, in 1874.1,2 She married in 1900, John Hender Hooper.3 John was born in 18674 and died in 1945.4
In 1881 Emily was living at 50 High Street, MargateG, in the household of her parents Shrubsole and Mercy, and was recorded in the census as Emily M Lawrence, a scholar, aged seven and born in Margate.5
In 1891 she was living at 50 High Street, MargateG, in the household of her parents Shrubsole and Mercy, and was recorded as Emily Mercy Lawrence, aged 16 and born in Margate.6
Emily entered the Salvation Army Office Training College in 1896. She was the Salvation Army Officer at the Glastonbury Corps for a period.4
John and Emily moved from Victoria to North Rocks, Sydney, in 1922, and established a citrus farm there. Emily travelled by train with their six chilldren. John made the journey by horse and cart, carrying their furniture and other possessions. The 900-mile trip took him three weeks. They remained on this farm until 1940 when they moved to a farm at Toongabbie, also on the then outskirts of Sydney.
