William Frederick Sackett, son of ___ Elliott and Elizabeth Ann Sackett, was born in Ramsgate, KentG, in 1866.1 He died aged 73 in Hove, SussexG, in 1939.2 He married in St Barnabus Church, HoveG, on 6 July 1893, Alice Burstow, daughter of Charles Burstow and ___ Dumbrell.3,4,5,6 Alice was born in Brighton, SussexG, in 18657 and died aged 77 in Worthing, SussexG, in 1942.8
In 1871 William was living at 2 Montague Place, Brighton, SussexG, with his mother Elizabeth in the household of his grandfather Samuel Sackett, and was recorded in the census as William Elliott, a scholar, aged six and born in Ramsgate, Kent.9
In 1881 he was living at 117 Shirley Street, Hove, SussexG, in the household of his mother Elizabeth and stepfather George Garrett, and was recorded as William Garrett, a greengrocer's boy, aged 16 and born in Ramsgate. It is not known that he had taken his stepfather's name of Garrett; the recording of Garrett rather than Elliott may have been a census error.10
In 1891 he was living at 36 Westbourne Street, Aldrington, SussexG, in the household of his mother Elizabeth and stepfather George Garrett, and was recorded as William F Sackett, a potman, single, aged 24.11
In 1901 he was living at 6 Clarendon Road, Hove, SussexG, and was recorded as William Sackett, a cab driver, head of household, married, aged 35 and born in Ramsgate, Kent. Living with him was his wife Alice, aged 35 and born in Brighton, Sussex.12
In 1911 he was living at 11 Clarendon Road, HoveG, and was recorded as William Frederick Sackett, a coach builder's labourer, head of household, aged 45 and born in Ramsgate. Living with him was his wife Alice, aged 45.13
In 1921 he was living at 10 Clarendon Road, HoveG, and was recorded as William Frederick Sackett, a cleaner and odd job man at a motor and carriage builders, head of household, aged 56. His wife Alice, 55, was living with him.14
