George Henry Sackett, son of George Levi Sackett and Ann Ellen Nicholson, was born in Chicopee, Hampden County, MassachusettsG, on 15 December 1859.1 He died aged 79 in Springfield, Hampden CountyG, on 5 February 19392,3 and was buried at Paucatuck Cemetery, West Springfield, Hampden CountyG.6 He married in West SpringfieldG on 27 April 1880, Ellen Charles "Nellie" Grant, daughter of Charles Grant and Elizabeth ___.4,5 Ellen was born in CanadaG in January 1861.7,6 She died aged about 73 in 1934 and was buried at Paucatuck CemeteryG.6
In 1860 George was living in Springfield, Hampden County, MassachusettsG, in the household of his parents George and Ann, and was recorded in the census as George L Sacket Jr, aged four months and born in Massachusetts.8
In 1870 he was living in SpringfieldG in the household of his father George and stepmother Mary, and was recorded as Geo H Sackett, aged ten and born in Massachusetts.9
In 1880 he was living in West SpringfieldG and was recorded as George H Sackett, a railroad fireman, head of household, aged 21. His wife Nellie, 19, was living with him.10
In 1900 he was living at Cottage Street, West SpringfieldG, and was recorded as George H Sackett, a locomotive engineer, head of household. He owned his home on a mortgage. Living with him were his wife Ellen, 39, and their children, Charles, 17, and Elizabeth, aged 14.11
George was a member of the Hampden lodge of freemasons from 9 June 1903.12
In 1910 he was living at Cottage Street, West SpringfieldG, and was recorded as George H, a railroad engineer, head of household, aged 50. He owned his home free of mortgage. Living with him were his wife Ellen, 49, and his widowed father George L Sackett, aged 70. George Henry's daughter Elizabeth was living next door with her husband Murray Root and their daughter Doris.13

GEORGE H. SACKETT, RAILROAD MAN, DEAD
Retired B. & A. Engineer Was Member of Masons and Odd Fellows
George H. Sackett, 79, of 42 Cottage street, West Springfield, retired veteran of 51 years service as an engineer and fireman with the Boston & Albany railroad, died yesterday at Wesson Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was born in Chicopee, but had lived in West Springfield for 65 years. He began his service with the railroad in 1877 as a fireman for his engineer-father, and was promoted to an engineer berth four years later. He retired 10 years ago.
Mr. Sackett was a member of the Hampden lodge of Masons, the Craft club, Amity lodge of Odd Fellows and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He leaves one granddaughter, Mrs. Doris Hendrickson; one grandson, Grant Sackett, and two great-grandchildren, all of West Springfield.
The funeral will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, of which Mr. Sackett was a member, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30. Burial will be in Tatham cemetery. The body may be seen at the Morrill funeral parlors until noon Wednesday.
