Van Rensselaer Reed, son of Elijah Fitch Reed and Mary Jacobia, was born in New York StateG on 25 December 1827.1,2 He married Lucinda Hall.1
     In 1850 he was living at Clifton Park, Saratoga County, New York StateG, in the household of his parents Elijah and Mary, and was recorded as Ransalier Reed, a farmer, aged 22 and born in New York.3
     In 1880 he was living at Vischers Ferry, Clifton Park, Saratoga CountyG, in the household of his brother Stephen and sister-in-law Rachel, and was recorded as Van Ranslan Reed, a farm worker, a widower, aged 52 and born in New York.4
