Albert Edward Sackett, MM, son of George Robert Sackett and Caroline Edith Pillow, was born in Ramsgate, KentG, in 1895.1,2 He died aged 57 at 26 Poplar Grove, Stockport, CheshireG, on 24 February 1952.3,4 He married at Ramsgate Christ Church, KentG, on 7 July 1919, Gertrude Maud Stevens, daughter of David Franklin Stevens and Julia Anne Chapman.5,6,7 Gertrude was born in Thanet, KentG, on 12 December 1889.8 She died aged 80 in CheshireG in 1970.9
In 1901 Albert was living at 7 Effingham Street, Ramsgate, KentG, in the household of his parents George and Caroline, and was recorded in the census as Albert E Sackett, aged four and born in Ramsgate.10
In 1911 he was living at 30 Camden Square, RamsgateG, in the household of his parents George and Caroline, and was recorded as Albert Edward Sackett, an outfitter, aged 16 and born in Ramsgate.11
Albert joined the British Army (Royal Flying Corps) on 1 November 1915. He served in France for three years during the First World War and was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in battle in October 1918. He transferred to the Royal Air Force on its formation on 1 April 1918 in the rank of corporal and continued to serve in France until February 1919.12,13,14
In 1921 he was living at 49 Southwood Road, St Lawrence in Thanet, KentG, and was recorded as Albert Edward Sackett, an assistant in an outfitter's shop, aged 26. His wife Gertrude, 31, was living with him. They were living in the household of Gertrude's parents, David and Julia Stevens.15
Albert left a will which was proved on 21 April 1952 by his widow Gertrude. His estate was valued at £209.16
