Maria Sackett, daughter of Elisha W Sackett and Elizabeth Voyles, was born in Washville, Montgomery County, IllinoisG, on 29 January 1836.1 She married in Montgomery County, IllinoisG, on 16 April 1857, James McPhail.1
In 1850 Maria was living in the Southwest part of District 22, Montgomery County, IllinoisG, in the household of her widowed mother Elizabeth, and was recorded in the census as Mariah Sackett, aged 15 and born in Illinois.2
In 1860 she was living in WalshvilleG in the household of her husband James, 34, a farmer, and was recorded as Maria McPhail, aged 20. Living with them were four children from James's first marriage and James and Maria's children, Chester, 2, and Mary, aged ten months. There was also a male farm laborer in the household.3
In 1870 she was living in WalshvilleG in the household of James McPhail, 45, a farmer, and was recorded as Maria McPhail, aged 33. Living with them were their children, Chester, 12, Marietta, 10, Hardin, 7, and Charles, aged five, and James's daughter Martha, 15, from his first marriage.4
In 1880 she was living in WalshvilleG in the household of her husband James, 52, a farmer, and was recorded as Maria McPhail, aged 44. Living with them were their children, Hardin, 17, Charles, 14, Teedy, 11, William, 7, George, 4, and Holland, aged three.5
In 1900 she was living in South Litchfield, Montgomery CountyG, and was recorded as Marie McPhail, a farmer, head of household, a widow, aged 64. Living with her were her children, Charles, 32, William, 25, and Hollie, aged 22.6
