Mary Evans, daughter of Edward Evans and Ann ___, was born in MonmouthshireG on 6 October 1863.1 She was probably the Mary Jones who died aged 80 in GlamorganG in 1943 (to be verified.)2 She married in Nantyglo, MonmouthshireG, on 24 December 1883, James Jones, son of Griffith Jones.3
In 1891 Mary was living in NantygloG and was recorded in the census as Mary Jones, aged 28. She was living with her husband James, 41, two children from James's first marriage, and James and Mary's four children, including Elizabeth Hannah, aged six. Mary's father Edward Evans was also in the household.4
In 1901 she was living at 33 Garn Road, NantygloG, and was recorded as Mary Jones, aged 35. She was living with her husband James, 45, a coal hewer, and six children, including Elizabeth Hannah, 16, and Laura, aged four. Also in the household were Edward Evans, 66, a boarder, William Watkins, 23, husband of James and Mary's daughter Mary, and William and Mary's two-month-old son Augustus.5
In 1911 she was living at Waterloo Cottages, NantygloG, and was recorded as Mary Jones, aged 45. She was living with her husband James, 59, and their children, William, 23, Edward, 20, Godfrey, 16, and Laura, aged 14.6
In 1921 she was living at Garn Road, NantygloG, and was recorded as Mary Jones, aged 59. She was living with her husband James, 71, and their children, Godfrey, 27, and Laura, 24. Also in the household was James's widowed brother John Jones, 75.7
