Obituary
John H. Sackett was born in the state of New York, near Sackett's Harbor, July, 31, 1845. Early in life he started to follow the "Star of Empire" westward. At Pleasant Ridge, Ill., he made the acquaintance of Miss Mattie Burd, and was married to her at Chalesworth [sic, presume Chatsworth], Ill., March 15, 1871. Subsequently they came to Colorado, then to Cheyenne, Wyo., and in 1890 located at Big Horn,
this county, where they have since resided.
Mr. Sackett was associated in business with Mr. C. W. Skinner for several years but sold out and turned his attention to farming and stock raising.
Some weeks ago he was taken down with pleurisy, from which he never recovered, and on the morning of the 21st inst, he passed away, at the age of 48 years, 4 months 20 days.
Mr. Sackett wa a member of Cheyenne Lodge No. 1, I.O.O.F., and a charter member of Sheridan Lodge No. 10, I.O.O.F., and his funeral services were conducted by the latter body last Saturday ad 2 p. m., in the Methodist church at Big Horn. He leaves a wife, one daughter and five sons, to whom is tendered the sympathy of the community.
