BEATRICE ELIZABETH SACKETT
June 23, 1924 – March 24, 2014
Beatrice E. Sackett went to meet her Lord, March 24, 2014, following a
lengthy illness. She is being remembered by family and friends as a
woman who always put others ahead of herself. “Beattie” to her family
was born in London, England to Fred and Esther Jefcoate. At the height
of World War II, she met and married James H. Sackett, Sr of
Bracketville, Texas. He was stationed in London with the Army Air Force.
The wife of a military man, she made sure the family remained tight-knit
at the various duty stations in this country and around the world.
During her life she never lost touch with her childhood home or
relatives nor lost her English accent. She loved to cook and no one,
relative, family, or stranger, ever went hungry at her house.
Beattie was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 1998. She is
survived by six children, Jim (Paula) of Wellington, FL, Fred (Sara) of
Waldorf, MD, Evelyn (Bob) of Harrisburg, PA, Mia of Washington, D.C.,
Mike of Washington, D.C., and Tom (Kelly) of Fairfax, VA, along with 15
grandchildren and 18 Great-Grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Joan
Gardiner (Vic) of London, England and several nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held at Lee Funeral Home from 4pm to 7pm, Saturday,
March 29, 2014. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a
date to be determined.
