"Loren Clifford Sackett
Loren Clifford Sackett passed away on July 28, 2008 after recently
celebrating his 90th birthday with his friends. Born in Nixa, Missouri, on June 4,
1918, he was preceded in death by his father, George Sackett, and his mother
Pearl Blakely Sackett. Loren left the area at an early age to obtain his
undergraduate degree from MIT and a graduate degree in physics from Stanford.
After graduating he went on to a lengthy and distinguished career in
scientific research and development. This included a period as one of the top
engineers at Chrysler Corporation as well as research and development for the
United States government. His name is on several patents that were
innovative breakthroughs leading to the development of NASA space flight and
groundbreaking military advancements. After residing for many years in California,
Loren returned to the area in the late 1960's where he continued his private
research interest for many years. This quiet man will be honored and
remembered in a private memorial service at St. Agnes Cathedral on Tuesday,
August 5, at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be at Payne Cemetery in Nixa with his father
George Sackett."
