About
I grew up in the midwest—Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas—and went to Baylor University, where I met my future husband. My professional career was in editing and publishing, most of the time with a mathematics education association, where I retired in 2003. My husband, Bill (d. 1988), was in the Air Force, so I've lived in quite a few places, but I've been in northern Virginia since 1986—longer than I've ever lived anywhere! My three children live in California, Texas, and Georgia, and my siblings live in Kansas and Texas, so I travel a lot.
My interest in family history peaked in 1969, when we first moved to the Washington, D.C., area and discovered the National Archives. Both my husband and I were fascinated by being able to look up our ancestors and find actual census listings and military records for people we had known and for others we had heard stories about all our lives. Family history has been pretty much a nonstop obsession ever since. Thanks to TSFA, my Sackett line is long and well-documented, but one of my densest brick walls is ggrandfather George Scott, who married Aner Jane Sackett. Our recent discovery of their graves, complete with inscribed birth and death dates, has been a research highlight. Now if I could just find out who his parents were!
