Emma Collins, daughter of Richard Collins and Sarah Nethercott, was born in Carhampton, SomersetG, in 18541,2 and baptized at Carhampton, SomersetG, on 3 September 1854.3 She married in Treborough, SomersetG, on 19 May 1877, Edward Sutton, son of James Sutton and Mary Kerslake.4,5
In 1861 Emma was living at Holwell Cottage, Treborough, SomersetG, in the household of her parents Richard and Sarah, and was recorded in the census as Emma Collings, aged six and born in Carhampton.6
In 1871 she was living in TreboroughG in the household of her widowed father Richard, and was recorded as Emma Collins, housekeeper, aged 16.7
In 1881 she was living at Brendon Hill, Old Cleeve, Williton, SomersetG, in the household of her husband Edward, 26, an iron miner, and was recorded as Emma Sutton, aged 26. Living with them were their children, Walter, 2, and Emily, aged ten months.8
In 1891 she was living in LLanelly, BreconshireG, in the household of her husband Edward, 36, a coal miner, and was recorded as Emma Sutton, aged 36. Living with them were five children, including Wilsie, aged eight.9

In 1921 she was living at 15 Lower Bailey Street, BrynmawrG, in the household of her husband Edward, 67, a miner out of work, and was recorded as Emma Sutton, aged 66. Their sons Arthur, 32, and Albert, 24, were living with them, both also out of work miners.12
