Edward Sutton, son of James Sutton and Mary Kerslake, was born in Kingsbrompton (now Brompton Regis), SomersetG, in 18531,2,3 and baptized at Withel Florey, SomersetG, on 10 July 1853.4 He married in Treborough, SomersetG, on 19 May 1877, Emma Collins, daughter of Richard Collins and Sarah Nethercott.5,6
In 1861 Edward was living in KingsbromptonG in the household of his parents James and Mary, and was recorded in the census as Edward Sutton, aged seven and born in Kingsbrompton.7
In 1871 he was living in Brompton RegisG in the household of his parents James and Mary, and was recorded as Edward Sutton, an agricultural labourer, aged 17.8
In 1881 he was living at Brendon Hill, Old Cleeve, Williton, SomersetG, and was recorded as Edward Sutton, an iron miner, aged 26. Living with him were his wife Emma, 26, and their children, Walter, 2, and Emily, aged ten months.9
In 1891 he was living in LLanelly, BreconshireG, and was recorded as Edward Sutton, a coal miner, aged 36. Living with him were his wife Emma, 36, and five children, including Wilsie, aged eight.10
In 1901 he was living at 30 Somerset Street, Brynmawr, BreconshireG, and was recorded as Edward Sutton, a coal miner, aged 46. Living with him were his wiife Emma, 46, and five children, including Wilsie, 19.11
In 1911 he was living at 30 Somerset Street, BrynmawrG, and was recorded as Edward Sutton, a coal miner, aged 56. His wife Emma, 56, and three of their children were living with him. They had had twelve children of whom seven were still living in 1911.12
In 1921 he was living at 15 Lower Bailey Street, BrynmawrG, and was recorded as Edward Sutton, aged 67, an out of work miner. His wife Emma, 66, and their sons Arthur, 32, and Albert, 24, were living with them, both also out of work miners.13
