Thomas James Clark, son of John James Clark and Eliza Frances Spain, was born in Acol, KentG, in 1866.1,2 He married in Thanet, KentG, in 1897, Margaret Ann Stokes, daughter of John Stokes and Margaret Ann Foat.3 Margaret Ann Stokes was born in Margate, KentG, in 1861.1,4
     In 1871 Thomas was living in Acol, KentG, in the household of his parents John and Eliza, and was recorded in the census as Thomas Clark, aged four and born in Acol.5
     In 1891 he was living in Minster in ThanetG and was recorded as Thomas Clark, a carrier, head of household, aged 24. Living with him were his widowed mother Eliza, 46, and his siblings, Alfred, 22, George, 18, Jane, 16, and Jessie, aged ten.6
     In 1901 he was living at 17 Plains of Waterloo, Ramsgate, KentG, and was recorded as Thomas J Clark, a general labourer, head of household, aged 34. His wife Margaret, 39, was living with him.7
     In 1911 he was living at Rose Cottages, Acol, KentG, and was recorded as Thomas J Clark, a farm labourer, aged 44. Living with him were his wife Margaret, 49, and their daughter Clarice, aged eight.8
