In 1900 William was living at 3rd Avenue, Antigo, Langlade County, WisconsinG, and was recorded in the census as W E Wade, a railroad brakeman, aged 33 and born in New York. He owned his house free of mortgage. Living with him were his wife Mary, 30, their children, Althea, 8, Julia, 6, and Sherman, aged four, and Mary's widowed mother, Julia
Corbett, 67. There was also a female servant in the household.3
