Violet M Simms, daughter of James Simms and Amelia Violet Muriel Sackett, was born in Canterbury, KentG, on 2 January 1916.1,2 She married in St Albans, HertfordshireG, in 1940, William T Lane.3
     At the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, Violet was living at 48 Heath Road, St Albans, HertfordshireG, in the household of her widowed mother Amelia. Violet was then aged 23, single, and was employed as a folding machine operator at a printing firm.4
