Bankes Tomlin, son of Robert Sackett Tomlin and Elizabeth Anne Bankes, was born in Thanet, KentG, on 23 November 1823.1
     In 1841 Bankes was living at The Hall, Great Abington, CambridgeshireG, in the household of his parents Robert and Elizabeth, and was recorded in the census as Bankes Tomlin, aged 17 and born not in Cambridgeshire.2
     In 1861 he was living at Wesgate Street, St Marks, Peterborough, NorthamptonshireG, in the household of his parents Robert and Elizabeth, and was recorded as Banks Tomlin, late captain of Dragoon Guards, unmarried, aged 36 and born in Thanet.3
