John Allen Sackett, son of Francis M Sackett and Ruth Sophia Sayer, was born in IllinoisG in April 1864.4,5 He died aged about 73 in 1937 and was buried at Van Meter Cemetery, Dallas County, IowaG.7,8 He married first in Adair County, IowaG, on 30 October 1887, Effie Janet Key, daughter of Fielden Key and Susan Roberts.6 Effie was born on 11 March 18692 and died aged 29 on 15 July 1898.2 He married second on 9 February 1900, Marguerite M ___.7,2 Marguerite was born in OhioG in October 18684,9 and was buried at Van Meter CemeteryG.8 She died aged about 63 in 1932.
In 1870 John was living in Cheney's Grove, McLean County, IllinoisG, in the household of his parents Francis and Ruth, and was recorded in the census as John A Sackett, aged six and born in Illinois.10
In 1880 he was living in Harrison, Adair County, IowaG, in the household of his parents Francis and Ruth, and was recorded as John A Sackett, a herder, aged 16 and born in Illinois.11
In 1900 he was living in Valley Township, Guthrie County, IowaG, and was recorded as John A Sackett, a farmer, head of household, aged 36. He rented his home and farm. Living with him were his second wife Marguerite, 31, and his children from his first marriage, Frank, 11, Pearl, 10, Ray, 8, and Casper, aged three.12
In 1910 he was living in Van Meter, Dallas County, IowaG, and was recorded as John A Sackett, a teamster on a dray wagon, head of household, aged 45. He owned his home free of mortgage. Living with him was his second wife, Marguerite, 40.13
