Eliza Sackett, daughter of Jeremiah Sackett and Sarah Hodgeman, was born in Ramsgate, KentG, in 1816 and baptized at St Lawrence in Thanet, KentG, on 23 June 1816.1 She died unmarried aged 72 in ThanetG in 18892 and was buried at St George's Church, RamsgateG, on 12 March 1889.3
In 1841 Eliza was living at Harbour Street, RamsgateG, in the household of her parents Jeremiah and Sarah, and was recorded in the census as Eliza Sackett, aged 23 and born in Kent.4
In 1851 she was living at 25 Spencer Square, RamsgateG, and was recorded as Eliza Sackett, a private governess, head of household, unmarried, aged 32, and born in Ramsgate. Living with her were her unmarried sister Mary Ann, aged 30, and unmarried brother William, aged 39.5
In 1861 she was living at Stoke House School, RamsgateG, and was recorded as Eliza Sackett, a governess, head of household, unmarried, aged 44, and born in Ramsgate. Also in the household were her unmarried sister Mary aged 42, her unmarried brother William Sackett aged 51, her unmarried cousin Sarah Hope aged 60, and her unmarried niece Maria aged 23.6
In 1871 she was living at Stoke House School, West Cliff Road, RamsgateG, and was recorded as Eliza Sackett, a school mistress, head of household, unmarried, aged 52, and born in Ramsgate. Living with her were her unmarried sister Mary who assisted in the school, their niece Maria Sackett who assisted in the house, and an unmarried cousin,Sarah Hope, who was the housekeeper.7
In 1881 she was living at Stoke House, RamsgateG, and was recorded as Eliza Sackett, head of household, unmarried, aged 64, and born in Ramsgate. She received her income from house property rents. Also in the household were her 65-year-old widowed cousin Ann Gregory, described as a lady's help, together with a widowed female boarder and a 15-year-old female servant.8
