Azariah Root, son of Eli Root and Mindwell Sacket, was born in Pittsfield, Berkshire County, MassachusettsG, on 20 December 1761.1 He died aged 90 in Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, OhioG, on 1 January 1852.1 He married in PittsfieldG on 5 October 1788, Nellie Barber, daughter of Matthew Barber.1
Azariah served in the American Revolutionary War, and witnessed the execution of Major André at Tappan, New York, on 2 October 1780. In the War of 1812, Azariah commanded a regiment.1
