Ellen Sackett, daughter of Henry Sackett and Susannah Rea, was born in Orsett, EssexG, on 3 February 18421 and baptized at St Giles & All Saints, OrsettG, on 10 March 1842.2 She died aged 62 in Marylebone, LondonG, in 1904.3 She married in Orsett ChurchG on 22 June 1875, apparently as his second wife, Charles Eve, son of Thomas Eve and Mary Ashford.4,5,6,7 Charles was born in OrsettG in 18418 and died aged 44 at White Rose Cottages, Lower Lancing, SussexG, on 4 August 1886.9,10
     In 1851 Ellen was living at Long Orsett Farm, OrsettG, in the household of her parents Henry and Susannah, and was recorded in the census as Ellen Sackett, a scholar, aged nine and born in Orsett.11
     In 1861 she was living in OrsettG and was recorded as Ellen Sackett, aged 19, born in Orsett, daughter of Susannah Sackett.12
     In 1871 she was living at Old Rectory, OrsettG, and was recorded as Ellen Sackett, unmarried, aged 28, born in Orsett, the daughter of Henry Sackett.13
     In 1881 she was living at 17 Grove Terrace, London, MiddlesexG, in the household of her husband Charles, a pharmaceutical chemist, aged 39 and born in Orsett, and was recorded as Ellen Eve, aged 39 and born in Orsett. Living with them were their children, Frederick, 2, and George, 5 months, Charles' daughter Mary, 14, Charles' 67-year-old widowed mother Mary, and a 19-year-old female domestic servant.14
     Ellen's husband Charles left a will which was proved on 28 August 1886. His estate was valued at £906.15
     In 1891 Ellen was living at 17 Grove Terrace, St Pancras, LondonG, and was recorded in the census as Ellen Eve, head of household, a widow living on her own means, aged 49 and born in Orsett. Living with her was her sister Grace E Heatherley, 35. Also in the household were a Mary Able, 33, a boarder, Charlotte Stracey, 80, a visitor, Sarah Jones, 61, a general servant, and Thomas J Jenkins, 41, a lodger.16
     In 1901 she was living at 17 Grove Terrace, St Pancras, LondonG, and was recorded as Ellen Eve, head of household, a widow, aged 59, living on her own means, and born in Orsett. Living with her were her unmarried sons Frederick, 22, and George, 20, her widowed sister Fanny Matchitt, 47, and her married sister Grace Edith Heatherley, 45. Also in the household was a female servant, Sarah Jones, 71.17
