George Robert Sackett

(1854-1916)
FatherRobert George Sackett (1815-1896)
MotherJudith Fegen (c 1813-1879)
George Robert Sackett, son of Robert George Sackett and Judith Fegen, was born in Ramsgate, KentG, in 1854.1,2 He died aged 62 in Thanet, KentG, in 1916.3 He married there in 1880, Caroline Edith Pillow.4,5 She was born in Canterbury, KentG, in 1852 or 1853.2
In 1861 George was living at 3 Leopold Street, Ramsgate, KentG, in the household of his parents Robert and Judith, and was recorded in the census as George Sackett, a scholar, aged seven and born in Ramsgate.6
In 1871 he was living at 21 Meeting Street, RamsgateG, in the household of his parents Robert and Judith, and was recorded as George Sackett, a general porter, aged 17, and born in Ramsgate.7
In 1891 he was living at 24 Leopold Street, RamsgateG, and was recorded as George R Sackett, a licensed porter, head of household, married, aged 37 and born in Ramsgate. Living with him were his wife Caroline, aged 38, and born in Canterbury, and their children, Ada, 9, Emily, 7, Florence, 3, and William, aged six months.8
In 1901 he was living at 7 Effingham Street, RamsgateG, and was recorded as George Sackett, a licensed general porter, head of household, married, aged 47, and born in Ramsgate. Living with him were his wife Caroline, aged 57[?], and born in Canterbury, and their children, Ada, 19, Emily, 17, Florence, 14, William, 10, George, 7, and Albert, aged four. Also in the household were George's brother-in-law, Herbert W Pillow, and a female boarder, Marian Strickland. The age (57) recorded for Caroline is likely to be an error, their youngest child being aged four. It would seem probable that Herbert Pillow was Caroline's brother, but this has not been verified.9
In 1911 he was living at 30 Camden Square, RamsgateG, and was recorded as George Robert Sackett, a licensed porter, head of household, aged 58 [actually 57] and born in Ramsgate. Living with him were his wife Caroline, 48, and their unmarried children, Ada, 29, Emily, 27, William, 20, George, 17, and Albert, aged 16.10
(1911 census)

In 1921 George's widow Caroline was living at 2 Florence Cottages, Coronation Road, RamsgateG, and was recorded in the census as Caroline Edith Sackett, an unemployed nurse, head of household, a widow, aged 58.11
