James William Jarman, son of James Jarman and Harriet Sackett, was born in Ramsgate, KentG, in 18031 and baptized at St Lawrence Church, RamsgateG, on 10 July 1803.2 He died aged about 82 in Thanet, KentG, in 1886.3 He married at St John's Church, Margate, KentG, on 14 August 1825, Mary Kirby.1 She was born in Herne, KentG, in about 1800.4
     In 1851 James was living at 13 Alfred Cottages, Ramsgate, KentG, and was recorded in the census as James W Jarman, bricklayer & plasterer, head of household, married, aged 47 and born in Ramsgate. Living with him were his wife Mary, 51, children, Richard, 19, William, 14, and Thomas, 12, and grandson Alfred J Jarman, aged two.5
