Volney DeForrest Sackett, son of Merrill Cleveland Sackett and Sarah Emily "Sally" Rice, was born in Whitesville, Allegany County, New York StateG, on 5 June 1844.1 He died aged 50 in Allegany CountyG on 4 September 18941 and was buried at Hillside Cemetery, Andover, Allegany CountyG.1 He married first in De Kalb County, IllinoisG, on 3 May 1864, Elizabeth Simpson.1 He married second in Grand Traverse County, MichiganG, on 6 October 1877, Effie J Hadley.1
     In 1850 Volney was living at Independence, Allegany County, New York StateG, in the household of his parents Merrill and Sally, and was recorded in the census as Volney D Sackett, aged four and born in New York.2
