Mark Alvin Sackett, son of Edward L Sackett and Clara Rosella "Rosa" Skinner, was born in Winnebago, Faribault County, MinnesotaG, on 2 September 1895.1 He died aged 88 in Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, IowaG, on 7 July 19842,3 and was buried at Elmwood St Joseph Cemetery, Mason CityG.4 He married first in Mason CityG on 29 July 1919, Nellie Winifred Walker, daughter of Harry Walker and Edith Williams.5 Nellie was born in Portland, Cerro Gordo CountyG, on 20 April 1895. She died aged 46 in Mason CityG on 3 October 1941 and was buried at Elmwood Cemetery on 6 October 1941. He married second at Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo County, IowaG, on 22 December 1945, Reba Dorrie Donaldson, widow of Grant Brewer, daughter of Charles Herbert Donaldson and Elizabeth F Durry. Reba was born on 7 September 1898.1 She died aged 92 in Mason CityG in April 1991.6
     In 1900 Mark was living in Nashville, Martin County, MinnesotaG, in the household of his parents Edward and Clara, and was recorded in the census as Mark A Sackett, aged three and born in Minnesota.7
     In 1910 he was living in NashvilleG in the household of his parents Edward and Clara, and was recorded as Mark A Sackett, a farmhand, aged 14.8
     Mark completed a World War I draft registration card on 5 June 1917. He was aged 21 and was a farmer. He was living at Viking, Marshall County, MinnesotaG, and had no dependents.9 He served in the US Army in the 130th Engineer Battalion during the First World War, enlisting on 26 April 1918 and being released on 21 July 1919. He sailed with his battalion to France, leaving Hoboken, New Jersey, on 20 October 1918 on the Megantic. He returned on the USS Canonicus, leaving Bordeaux on 28 June 1919 and arriving at Newport News, Virginia, on 10 July 1919.3,10
     In 1920 he was living at Federal Avenue, Mason CityG, and was recorded as Mark Sackett, a laborer, head of household, aged 24. Living with him was his wife Nellie, 25, a nurse.11
     Mark was listed in the Mason City Directory from 1922.12
     In 1930 Mark was living in Mason CityG and was recorded in the census as Mark A Sackett, a school janitor, head of household, aged 34 and born in Minnesota. He owned his home. Living with him were his wife Nellie, 35, and their daughter Lavonne, aged three. There was also a female boarder in the household.13
     Mark completed a World War II draft registration card on 27 April 1942. He was aged 46 and was living at Shark Park, San Francisco, CaliforniaG, although his place of employment was in Mason City, Iowa. His daughter Lavonne was with him in San Francisco and he gave her name as next of kin. His draft registration was completed in Mason City.14
