Mary Jane Sackett, daughter of Richard Thomas Sackett and Ann Elizabeth Reed, was born in West Ham, EssexG, on 12 February 18691,2 and baptized at St Paul, Stratford, EssexG, on 3 March 1869.3 She married at St Mary the Virgin, Plaistow, EssexG, on 24 May 1890, Joseph Cordery, son of Robert Cordery.4,5 Joseph was born in about 1870.
     In 1871 Mary was living at 11 Carpenter Road, Stratford, West Ham, EssexG, in the household of her parents Richard and Ann, and was recorded in the census as Mary Sackett, aged two and born in Stratford, Essex.6
     Mary was admitted, aged ten, with her eight-year-old sister Matilda, to Bow High Street School, Tower Hamlets, LondonG, on 17 June 1879. They had previously been pupils at Stratfield Road School. The family was living at 10 Stewart's Buildings.2
     In 1881 she was living at 113 Livingstone Road, West Ham, EssexG, in the household of her parents Richard and Ann, and was recorded as Mary J Sackett, aged 12 and born in Stratford.7
