Francis M Sackett, farmer, son of Elijah Gibson Sackett and Malinda Lee, was born in OhioG in about 1833.1,2 He died aged about 70 on 4 December 1903.1 He married Ruth Sophia Sayer.1 She was born in OhioG in about 1834.3
     In 1850 Francis was living in Berlin, Delaware County, OhioG, in the household of his parents Elijah and Malinda, and was recorded in the census as Francis M Sackett, aged 17 and born in Ohio.4
     In 1860 he was living in Oldtown, McLean County, IllinoisG, and was recorded as Francis M Sacket, a farmer, aged 26. Living with him were his wife Ruth, 26, and their children, Elijah, 2, (enumerated in error as Eliza) and Charles, aged six months. Also in the household was Francis's brother Hiram, 28.5
     Francis Sackett served the Union in the American Civil War in the 1st Regiment of Illinois Cavalry.6
     In 1870 he was living in Cheney's Grove, McLean County, IllinoisG, and was recorded as Francis M Sackett, a farmer, aged 37 and born in Ohio. Living with him were his wife Ruth, 36, and their children, Elijah, 12, Charles, 10, John, 6, Thomas, 4, and Milton, aged seven months.7
     In 1880 he was living in Harrison, Adair County, IowaG, and was recorded as F M Sackett, a farmer, head of household, aged 47 and born in Ohio. Living with him were his wife Ruth, 46, sons, Elijah, 22, Charles, 20, John, 16, Guy, 13, and Reuben, 5, and daughter Cora, aged seven.8

4509. Franklin M. Sackett, of Delaware, Ohio, and Greenfield, Iowa, son of (1810) Elijah G. and Malinda Lee Sackett, was by occupation a farmer. During the early part of the war for the preservation of the Union he served eight months in the 1st Regiment of Illinois Cavalry.
