Children of Elisha Sackett and Nancy Jones

1709. Elisha Sackett, 1778–1839, son of (717) Richard and Chloe Atherton Sackett, was married, about 1802, to Nancy Jones, 1786–1882, daughter of Jones Jones, of Peekskill, N.Y., and Spencer, N.Y. Elisha Sackett was the youngest of four children, and was born the year his father died. Widow Sackett, a short time after the death of her husband, removed with her four young children to New York City. She owned a house at the corner of Chambers Street and West Broadway, with a garden, and a pasture lot adjoining on which she kept a cow. There is some uncertainty as to whether she inherited this property from her husband or her father. It is a matter of record that her daughter (1710) Margaret, not yet quite sixteen years of age, was married there June 6, 1790, to Truman Merchant, aged 26. Previous to 1812 this property seems to have come into possession of her youngest child, Elisha, the subject of this sketch, who at his death in 1839 was survived by nine
