James John Sackett, sawyer, agricultural labourer, and lay preacher, of St Peter in Thanet, Kent, son of Henry Sackett and Elizabeth Sackett, was baptized at St Peter in ThanetG on 16 April 1820.1 He died aged 94 in ThanetG,2 and was buried at St Peter in ThanetG on 23 February 1914.3 (A note among the papers of Jabez Sackett (1840-1925) records that "Mr John James Sackett (94), the oldest Methodist lay preacher in Kent, lived all his life at Myrtle Cottage, Thanet, the house in which he was born, and in which he has died. He had slept under another roof only twice in all that time.") James married at St Lawrence in ThanetG on 15 May 1849, Sarah Ann Brice Hogbin.4,5 She was born in 1817.6 She died aged 74 in Northwood, St Lawrence in ThanetG, on 21 July 18917,8,9 and was buried at St Peter in ThanetG on 24 July 1891.9
     In 1841 James was living at Northwood, St Lawrence in Thanet, KentG, in the household of his parents Henry and Elizabeth, and was recorded in the census as James Sackett, aged 20 and born in Kent.10
     In 1851 he was living in the Hamlet of Northwood, St Lawrence in ThanetG, and was recorded as James J Sackett, a sawyer, head of household, married, aged 30, and born at St Lawrence. Living with him was his wife Sarah, aged 33, and also born at St Lawrence.11
     In 1861 he was living at Hamlet of NorthwoodG and was recorded as James Sackett, a wood sawyer, head of household, married, aged 42, and born at St Lawrence. Living with him were his wife Sarah, aged 43, and born at St Lawrence, and an 84-year-old lodger, John Vinter.12
     In 1871 he was living at 3 Northwood Lane, St Lawrence in ThanetG, and was recorded as James Sackett, a wood sawyer, head of household, married, aged 52, and born in St Lawrence. Living with him was his wife Sarah Sackett, aged 52, and also born in St Lawrence.13
     In 1881 he was living at 2 Northwood, St Lawrence in ThanetG, and was recorded as James Sackett, an agricultural labourer, head of household, married, aged 62, and born at St Lawrence. Living with him was his wife Sarah, aged 63, and born at St Lawrence.14
     James was named as a beneficiary in his brother Benjamin's will made in RamsgateG on 5 December 1881.15
     In 1891 he was living at Northwood Farm, St Lawrence in ThanetG, and was recorded as James Sackett, an agricultural labourer, head of household, married, aged 70, and born in St Lawrence. Living with him was his wife Sarah, aged 73, and born in Colswood.16 [in St Lawrence]
     James was appointed administrator of the estate of his wife Sarah by letters of administration granted in the Probate Registry, Canterbury, on 25 August 1891. Sarah's estate was valued at £189.8
