Edward Walter Sackett, known as Walter, son of Walter Richard Sackett and Mary Ann Bligh, was born in Thanet, KentG, in 18881 and baptized at St Paul's Church, Ramsgate, KentG, on 27 June 1888.2 He died aged 53 in Thanet, KentG, in 1941.3 He married at St Luke's Church, Ramsgate, KentG, on 24 March 1919, Ada Porter, daughter of Thomas Francis Porter.4,5,6 His occupation at the date of marriage was sailor.
     In 1891 Edward was living at 10 Castle Road, St Lawrence in Thanet, KentG, in the household of his parents Walter and Mary, and was recorded in the census as Walter R Sackett, aged three and born in Ramsgate.7
     In 1901 he was living at 1 Salem Cottages, King Street, RamsgateG, in the household of his parents Walter and Mary, and was recorded as Edward W Sackett, aged 13 and born in Ramsgate.8
     Walter joined the East Kent Regiment, The Buffs, at RamsgateG on 29 September 1905. He served only six months of a six-year enlistment, being granted a free discharge to support a parent.9
     In 1921 he was living at 4 Forge Cottages, St Lawrence in Thanet, KentG, and was recorded as Walter Sackett, an unemployed fisherman, head of household, aged 34. His wife Ada, 20, and her daughter (and Walter's adopted daughter) Hettie Sackett [Georgina], aged two, were living with him.10
